Inspiration:

After hearing the stories of people during the Buddha’s time, the retreat attendees wanted to gain a deeper understanding of their lives. And so we began to film!

“Patacara” was filmed during the 2009 KPY USA Retreat. A true, heart-wrenching story about a woman who lost everyone dear to her in a short period of time. Overcome with grief, she walked around town barely covered in a cloak, and thus became known as cloak walker, or “Patacara.”

“Kisagotami” was filmed during the 2010 KPY USA Retreat. It is a true story about a haggard, poor, depressed woman who finds love in an unexpected place. Kisagotami (haggard Gotami) marries into a wealthy family, but is rejected because amongst other things, she never has a baby. Her life takes a new turn when she finally gives them their heir.

“Khujjuttara” was filmed during the 2011 KPYUSA Retreat. This is a story that Luang Por Thoon commonly used as an example to illustrate two main concepts: 1. That laypeople can teach dhamma to their peers and attain a level of enlightenment. 2. Requesting or adhering to the precepts is not a prerequisite for attaining a level of enlightenment. In fact, Khujjuttara was in the process of sinning as she entered the first level of enlightenment!
